For MIDI users, it’s an age-old problem: how can I send MIDI messages from one program to another inside the computer?
A good answer, at least on Windows computers, was, in earlier times, MIDI Yoke – a nice little user mode MIDI driver, that provided up to 16 “virtual MIDI cables”. Unfortunately, Jamie O’Connell stopped its development many years ago – MIDI Yoke NT stayed at a version from 2007. This version worked quite well, at least up to Windows 7, but only for 32bit programs. For 64bit, Windows 10 and above … not so good, or rather, not at all, unfortunately.
Since I use and value the functionality, I created a successor for it:
MIDI Yoke NG
MIDI Yoke NG delivers the same functionality as MIDI Yoke NT, but it works in any Windows version since Windows 2000 (presumably NT4, too, but I haven’t tested that yet) up to 11, in 32bit as well as 64bit, also on Windows 11 ARM64, and allows to “place virtual MIDI cables” between any combination of 16bit, 32bit and 64bit programs, of course in a multi-user capable fashion.
Jamie O’Connel allowed me to use the name “MIDI Yoke” and the original’s graphics – he just requested that I point out that everything else, i.e., all the code, has been separately developed by me. So, here for download, in full splendor (well… there isn’t much, but it doesn’t need much 😉 ):
